Winch Capacity by Layer

WINCH CAPACITY BY LAYER — WHAT EVERY WRAP COSTS YOU

Each layer of rope on the drum costs you roughly fifteen percent of your pull. See the real figure for your layer count, and how much you get back by spooling out or adding a snatch block.

Winch Pull Capacity by Layer — Know Your Real Line Pull at Depth

Layer 1 gives you full rated pull. Every layer above it reduces that number. Calculate your actual pull for any drum depth.

Enter your winch model and rated pull. The calculator returns line pull for each layer from first to fifth, based on your drum and line diameter.

Most recoveries happen with multiple layers wound. Running a winch beyond its actual capacity at that layer depth stalls the motor and can damage the winch.
