The Pilot 2GS 10000mAh by Poweradd is a glossy charger with great looks. The Pilot charger is great for 3-4 days of charge procrastination during a hiking or camping trip. I got an email other day from Poweradd PR manager Tony(not from their company mail address, guessing could be the personal mail address) saying,
Poweradd™ Pilot 2GS 10000mAh Battery Charger has been updated for many times, now its quality has been already improved very much.
The charger as you can see in the Amazon listing, has been modified multiple times since it’s release in April. It has got a new multi-color and casing option. The product as a whole is good, but the four LED charge indicators in the charger are “crazy”, I’ll tell you why in a few seconds.
PRICE: $ 23.99
In the Box
The package includes a Poweradd external battery, micro USB cable and the user manual. Apple adapters need to be purchased separately.

The Poweradd Pilot 2GS is lightweight, compact and is durable as it is made of aviation aluminium. The sides of the charger are well rounded and has a smooth finish.
The product in the image can be misleading. When I first saw the product image listed in the Amazon.com, I thought it would have the dimensions and size of an iPhone. Nope, it is bit larger than Samsung Galaxy S4.
On the top face of the charger there are 3 ports- 2 USB output ports with a rating of 2.1A and 1A, a micro-USB input port for charging. The 2.1A output port, which charges twice quickly compared to the 1A port has a blue band on the port for differentiating the output ports.
A couple of more things are also located on the top- Four tiny LED lights and the power button. I like the concept having all the buttons and the ports in one part of the charger. It makes the battery bank more pocket-friendly. You can just drop the charger in your pocket with the top of the charger facing upwards and connect all the devices and control the charger easily.
LED charge indicator
Generally portable chargers have 4 LED indicators, in which each of them represent that the charger is 25% full. But the Pilot 10,000mAh charger has four LED indicator lights like any other charger, but the functionality is taken to the next level of craziness as also stated by an Amazon user…
Unique and wacky right? Let’s go for a camping trip people, I’ll bring on my Pilot charger, my LED data sheet, my calculator and we’ll sit there and calculate the remaining charge in my battery pack by referring to the data sheet and by using the calculator. Now, don’t tell me memorizing the range values is an option, I don’t like memorizing.
The Poweradd Pilot 2GS sports A+ Li-Polymer battery cells and build-in microchips. The battery is durable for more than 500 cycles of charging and discharging.
The battery efficiency is around 70%, meaning you would get 7000mAh effective energy per charge. The remaining 3000mAh is consumed or wasted during the process of voltage conversion as heat. The efficiency could have been better, Lepow chargers have an awesome efficiency of 90%.
Battery charging time
The Pilot 2GS takes around 5-6 hours to charge completely. The charging time is super fast, I know of chargers which have smaller 3000mAh capacity compared to 10,000mAh but take the same time to charge.
Device charging time
This Poweradd will score 5 complete charges for an empty iPhone, 3 complete chargers for Galaxy S4, 2 charges for an iPad.
Poweradd provides 12 months warranty and technical support, customer service all through the year for this product.
- It’s Sturdy, light weight, sleek.
- Has a USB 3.0 output.
- Very quick charging of the battery, with a record time of 5-6 hours.
- Test button to estimate the charge. Lights stay on during charging and while discharging light stays on for a short while only, to save power.
- When charging devices using the dual USB ports, each port charging is indicated by a light(that’s sweet).
- Heavy duty charging cord provided with the charger could carry high current.
- On repeated cycle of charge storage, the power capacity was reported to be less than its rated value.
- Low charger efficiency of 70%.
- LED indicators as mentioned previously are wacky. The LED charge ranges for charging and discharging need to be remembered.
I got to say that I like the design, form-factor, 3-4 days of charge freedom, battery charging time of the charger but the charging efficiency and the LED lights need a makeover.
