By the way guys we are excited to tell you that, we will be rolling out a free ebook giveaway along with the website subscription in the next week or so. I was busy with the writing and formatting of the book, the reason I wasn’t able to put up any new article the past week. Now back to the Anker Astro E4 review.
RATING: 4.6/ 5
In the Box
In the product package you can find Anker® 2nd Generation Astro E4 13000mAh External Battery pack along with a micro USB cable, a travel pouch and a welcome guide.
The product is compatible with all Apple and Android smartphones, tablets (including Nexus 7) and other USB charged devices thanks to Anker’s special and unique PowerIQ™ technology.
The micro-USB cable, the Astro E4 comes with is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 3 and other Micro USB 3.0 devices. To connect the device to the pack for charging, insert the cable’s Micro USB tip into the larger of the two connection ports on your device.
Each device has its own charging algorithm a.k.a the power rating. PowerIQ™ technology identifies the charging algorithm and optimizes the charging speed to get a quick recharge in the shortest time possible.
Sadly it is not compatible with the following devices:
iPod nano, iPod Classic, HP TouchPad, LG G2, Asus tablets and some GPS and Bluetooth devices.
Product Dimensions: 5.79 x 2.44 x 0.87 inches
Weight: 10.24 ounces
The product is very compact and sleek. This Astro E4 charger is the most sleek, high capacity charger ever released by Anker till date. That’s the reason why the product sales are skyrocketing.
It has a very sturdy and solid plastic enclosure. Its glossy exterior gives a very aesthetically appealing look and its filleted edges give a comfortable palm-held user experience.
The 13000mAh charger has 2 USB charging ports; a micro USB input port and a built-in LED flashlight on the bottom. It has a single power meter button on the side perfectly positioned for the thumb with the LED power meter on the front side. The power level can be checked by a single press of the power meter button and the LED flashlight can be turned on by pressing the power meter button for 3 seconds.
To avoid unintended damage to the power bank and the device which is being charged, always use the cable supplied with the power bank or your device’s original cable or third-party certified cables.
Astro E4 13000mAh is made of Lithium ion battery. PowerIQ™ technology enables charge speeds of up to 3 amps. But I frankly have no idea which portable device would have a rating of 3A input current. But in a way the 3A rating does help in quicker charging for a 1A/2A rated device.
The in-built LG Grade A cells and premium chips ensure reliability, safety and have promised supplying a total of 500+ recharge cycles over the lifetime.
Battery charging duration
Always remember when you want to charge a battery pack quickly, you should go for a 2A wall adapter instead of laptop USB charging. Laptop USB current rating can vary anywhere between 1A-2A depending on the USB port.
Even though the difference between USB charging and the adapter charging may not seem to be big, the total charging time difference can even be more than 2 hours. In this case when you use adapter charging the 13000mAh battery will get charged in around 6.5 hours. The adapter needs to be bought separately though.
Device charging duration
The power bank can charge an iPhone 5s almost 6 times or a Galaxy S5 over 3 times or an iPad Air once.
Anker promises a 18 month hassle free warranty.
- High charge capacity for the small size.
- The pricing is super cheap. The Astro 10,000mAh used to cost the same price three months back.
- The 86% efficiency of the battery is good, it’s lower than that of the 2nd gen Anker E3 10,000 mAh which has a kickass efficiency of 92%.
- Two ports, for charging 2 devices at a time
- Warranty period is same as other Anker products, still is fair enough.
- Comes only in black color.
- This is not a major issue but still got to state it, the power meter button raised above the case. It may get turned on accidentally in a briefcase or suitcase. This used to be a problem with the Anker E5 15000 mAh battery pack because of the odd placement of power button in the front!! At least the same problem happens rarely with Anker E4.
